Spanish nationality by marriage

Overview

A foreign national married to a Spaniard may apply after one year of effective marital cohabitation in Spain, registered marriage, legal residence and good civic conduct. CCSE and DELE A2 tests are required unless exempt; application is filed at the Civil Registry.

Immigration is governed by Organic Law 4/2000, RD 557/2011 and implementing rules. Autonomous communities process but do not change substantive state requirements.
